Biography
Adam Geib, son of John Geib, Sr., the inventor of the grasshopper action, first appears in New York's 1802-1803 city directory as 'Adam Geib, teacher.' Around 1805-1806 he entered a piano-making partnership with his brother John, trading as 'John & Adam Geib, pianoforte-makers, Mount Vernon,' located by 1807 on Leonard Street near Broadway. After his brother John's death before 1809, Adam continued running the business alone from the same address for several years. He later relocated to 23 Maiden Lane, where he went into partnership with his nephew William Geib in the firm of Geib & Walker, which William Geib eventually continued alone.
