Alvin Kranich was the younger brother of Helmuth Kranich, the co-founder of Kranich and Bach. The text notes only that he accompanied Helmuth on the voyage from Germany, arriving with him in New York in 1851 when Helmuth was eighteen. No further biographical detail about Alvin is given.
