Biography
Amelia Lewis-Freund was the mother of music-trade journalist John C. Freund. Raised in London from a young age by her uncle, a scholar and linguist attached to the Foreign Office who reportedly spoke and wrote fifteen languages and had accompanied Lord Macartney's embassy to China as interpreter, she inherited much of his linguistic gift. She was known for extraordinary accomplishments, including scientific knowledge, great strength of character, and musical excellence. She died in 1887.
