Bach
clavichord virtuoso
Biography
Bach is cited, along with other clavichord virtuosos of his time, as having rejected Schröter's early hammer action. The text attributes this rejection to the action's clumsy design, which depended entirely on the counterweight of the hammer butt to fall back after striking, producing a hard and tough touch unsuited to virtuoso playing.
