Biography

Bain of Scotland patented, in 1847, a device similar to Seytre's application of Jacquard's perforated cardboard to a musical instrument. As with Seytre's invention, the author notes no surviving instrument and no evidence of practical or commercial value, citing Bain only as another step in the development toward flexible perforated music media.
