Bösendorfer
piano maker
Biography
Bösendorfer, the piano maker, is mentioned in the text as the object of a testimonial from the virtuoso Sofie Menter, who told him that nothing gave her greater pleasure than playing his pianos. He appears among a group of piano makers -- alongside Steinway, Erard, and Weber -- whose instruments were praised by leading concert pianists of the day, testimonials which Dolge presents as valuable evidence of a maker's quality and reputation. A photograph of the Saal Bösendorfer concert hall in Vienna appears nearby in the same section of the book.
