Bosert
American
Biography
Bosert was an American and a practical piano-maker who, in 1838, entered into partnership with the German-born J. H. Schomacker to found the Philadelphia firm of Bosert & Schomacker. The partnership won recognition at state and institute fairs soon after starting. In 1842 Bosert and Schomacker jointly received Patent No. 2,595 for a novel stringing system and action improvement. After 1842 Bosert retired from the business, at which point it was reorganized as the Schomacker Piano Company, the firm that grew into the prominent Schomacker & Company of Spillane's own time. Bosert worked for the Schomacker firm in Philadelphia before setting out on his own. After leaving Schomacker's employ, he continued independently in the piano trade and was known for many years afterward as a small maker in Philadelphia.
