Biography
Braton S. Chase traced his connection to the piano trade back to 1869, when his father started the Chase Piano Company at Richmond, Indiana, under whose tutelage he acquired a thorough, practical knowledge of the craft. In 1889 he formed a partnership with C. H. Hackley, the lumber magnate of Muskegon, Michigan, to start the Chase-Hackley Piano Company. Through this enterprise he secured recognition as one of the leading piano producers of the west, helping realize Hackley's ambition of bringing fame to Muskegon as the home of the Chase Brothers and Chase-Hackley pianos.
