Carl Rudolf Ibach

d. April 25, 1863 · German

piano maker
  • Ibach

Biography

Carl Rudolf Ibach was the eldest son of Johannes Adolf Ibach, taking over his father's piano-making business in 1825 at only 21 years of age when his father's health, undermined by overwork, forced him to give up the firm. Young Ibach filled his father's place well, and from 1825 dates the rise of the house of Ibach. To find a greater market for his pianos and to broaden his knowledge of the world and business, he traveled whenever he could, visiting France and Spain and attending the newly inaugurated expositions and fairs, entering his pianos in competition and consistently being rewarded with honors. Like his father before him, he sacrificed his health to his ambition and died at Barmen on April 25, 1863, leaving the business to his son Rudolf Ibach, who renamed the firm Rudolf Ibach Sohn.
