Biography
Chapuis was one of the principal competitors of Alfred Dolge in the early American piano hammer-felt trade, producing a fair quality of felt by primitive, largely hand methods. Fearing Dolge's competition, the agent of a German felt manufacturer bought out Chapuis's business and employed him afterward in a felt factory in Germany.
