Biography
Charles Keidel was a relative of William Knabe by marriage. Following Knabe's death in 1864, Keidel became, together with Knabe's sons William Jr. and Ernest, one of the heirs of the William Knabe & Company house, which continued to operate under that name. Charles Keidel was a member of the firm of Knabe & Company. He is identified in the text as the brother of Herman F. Keidel, who managed the firm's Fifth Avenue warerooms and retail trade in New York for many years until his death in 1889.
