David Krakauer

Biography
David Krakauer was the son of Simon Krakauer. He learned the piano trade in A. H. Gale's shop and later worked for Haines Brothers and other New York makers before joining his father in 1869, when the firm began manufacturing pianos under the Krakauer name. He died in 1900. From Spillane (1890): David Krakauer was the practical member of the firm of Krakauer Brothers, piano manufacturers who appeared on Union Square, New York, in 1878, becoming known for popular-priced instruments of excellent character. He learned piano-making in New York at Kind & Grube's and subsequently worked in many of the city's leading shops. At twenty-one he began business in a modest way as a small maker, and also opened a musical instrument store at the upper end of the Bowery. In 1878 he was joined in partnership by his brothers, forming Krakauer Brothers.
