Biography

David Smith was the father of piano and organ inventor H. W. Smith of the Smith American Piano Company. Spillane credits him as an inventor of note in the cotton-machinery field, stating that it is to him that the industry owes the old-fashioned speeder, and frames his son's inventive talent as an inherited trait.
