Biography

Earle Edward Conway, a graduate of Beloit College in Wisconsin, began learning the piano business in 1893 with A. E. Whitney of St. Paul at a salary of twenty dollars a month. He soon sold pianos on his own account in southern Minnesota, quickly turning a large profit. His father, E. S. Conway, vice-president of the W. W. Kimball Company, then brought him into that firm, where he handled special accounts work and dealer relations during the panic years of 1893-1897, later becoming the company's general traveling representative for Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska. In 1902 he was elected director and secretary of W. W. Kimball Company. Seeking independence, he organized the Conway Company in 1905 with his brother, becoming its president, and after that company acquired the Hallet and Davis Company of Boston, he became secretary of the enlarged corporation, managing its financial and office departments.
