Edward Jardine
Biography
Edward Jardine was the nephew of piano maker John Jardine and supplied Spillane with a firsthand account of his uncle's business. In a communication quoted in the text, he described John Jardine's Broadway piano-making operation between 1832 and 1838, including the sale of two overstrung-bass pianos built in 1833, one to an unnamed Grand Street property owner and one to Lewis Webb of Greenwich, Connecticut. Edward Jardine was the nephew of piano maker John Jardine, of the firm Bridgeland & Jardine. By the time Spillane was writing, Edward Jardine headed the firm of Jardine & Sons, described as celebrated organ-builders, though no piano-making career of his own is recorded in this text.
