Edward S. Payson succeeded P. H. Powers as president of the Emerson Piano Company when Powers retired from active management in 1910 at the age of 84. Prior to this, Payson had assisted Powers for many years as acting secretary of the company. Dolge gives no further individual detail, dates, or background for Payson beyond his long service to the company and his succession to its presidency.
