Biography
Ernest J. Knabe, Sr. was the father of Ernest J. Knabe, Jr. and William Knabe, III, and head of William Knabe and Company, the firm carrying the Knabe name into its second generation. The tradition tied to his name led him to give his sons particular training for their future work in the piano trade. He died in March 1894, at which point his son Ernest was elected president and his son William vice-president of the corporation. The text notes his fuller biography appears in Volume I of this work.
