piano maker business head
  • Dusinberre & Company
  • Haines Brothers

Biography

F. L. Dusinberre, head of Dusinberre & Company of New York, was born in Bradford, N.Y., in 1846. He entered the employ of Haines Brothers in 1863, and over the following years acquired large and varied experience there, becoming a thoroughgoing piano-maker in addition to possessing what Spillane calls native American business ability. His firm, formed with partner R. E. Small, manufactured uprights exclusively, producing instruments regarded as excellent and well made for their price. Dusinberre is presented as a practical shop-trained maker whose skill was grounded directly in the Haines Brothers factory rather than in outside training.
