Biography
Father Wood, an English monk living in Rome, is said to have built a pianoforte similar to Bartolommeo Cristofori's instrument in 1711, apparently independent of direct contact with the Florentine maker's work. He later brought his pianoforte with him to England, where its introduction reportedly created a great sensation among those who saw and heard it.
