Felix Mendelssohn

German

composer user of pedal piano

Biography

Felix Mendelssohn is mentioned as one of two composers (along with Robert Schumann) for whom Louis Schöne, the author's uncle, constructed a pedal piano apparatus in 1843 at Leipsic. Schöne built Mendelssohn specifically a pedal mechanism designed to be used in conjunction with a grand piano, distinguishing it from Schumann's setup, which used a regular upright piano instead.
