Biography

Francis Gruss began business as a piano maker at 13 Grand Street, New York, in 1833. Along with several contemporaries of similarly modest standing, he was known only in an insignificant way in the trade up to about 1845 and was later remembered by old piano-makers chiefly as a journeyman.
