Biography

Frank C. Decker, Jr., son of Frank C. Decker, was born in New York in 1889. He graduated from business college at seventeen and took a regular course in piano making under his father's guidance. He showed exceptional skill with tools, illustrated by designing and building a miniature upright piano only two feet square, a perfect replica of the regular Decker and Son upright, after just one year working at the bench. When Decker and Son was incorporated in 1909, he was elected secretary of the corporation in 1910. was the grandson of piano maker Myron A. Decker, founder of the Decker piano business later known as Decker & Son. According to the text, he was being trained under the tutelage of his father, Frank C. Decker, in preparation to perpetuate the well-earned reputation of the Decker name within the American piano-making trade.
