Biography
George E. Blake was a member of the Blake family, the principal importers of pianofortes in Philadelphia toward the end of the eighteenth century, whose descendants remained connected with the piano business in that city. In recognition of his family's traditional and direct connection to the trade, Blake was chosen to serve on the "Committee on Musical Instruments" at the first exhibition of the Philadelphia Franklin Institute, a post he held for several subsequent years.
