Biography
George H. Bent, son of George P. Bent, was born in Chicago on October 11, 1878. He attended public schools, graduated from the Chicago Manual Training School in 1897, and became a post-graduate of the University of Chicago in 1900. He then traveled to Europe to study piano-manufacturing methods before returning to enter his father's factory, where he studied piano making under Joseph G. Kuntze. He subsequently worked as a traveling salesman and in 1905 was appointed manager of the retail department of the George P. Bent Company. In 1912 he was elected secretary of the corporation, succeeding his brother-in-law, Ernest G. Meikle.
