George Kearsing

fl. 1831-1868+

patent holder pianoforte maker

Biography

George Kearsing, a member of the Kearsing piano-making family, is identified by Spillane as one of the group that held the 1831 United States patent (with H.O. and W.F. Kearsing) for an improvement in square piano actions. In later years Kearsing operated as a piano-maker on his own account, active from 1868 onward, but was eventually crowded out of the trade by more modern manufacturing methods and larger facilities. Spillane notes that members of the Kearsing family remained in the piano trade afterward, working as journeymen.
