George W. Kellmer

head, Kellmer Piano Company (from 1893)
  • Kellmer Piano Company

Biography

George W. Kellmer, son of Peter Kellmer, was raised in his father's piano-making atmosphere and taught the craft by him. He began studying music at age six and later received instruction from some of New York's greatest piano teachers. He took charge of his father's piano factory, the Kellmer Piano Company, in 1893, and continually improved its grand and upright pianos along artistic lines. He pursued a policy of selling pianos directly to the public, preferring to make instruments of the highest quality rather than turn out large quantities of the so-called commercial kind.
