Biography
Gilbert is credited by Spillane with an upright iron frame design, illustrated in the History of the American Pianoforte, cited as one of several Boston-originated variations on the complete iron-plate principle that followed the earlier innovations of Alpheus Babcock and Jonas Chickering.
