Gustave Lyon
Biography
Gustave Lyon, of the firm Pleyel, Lyon & Company, succeeded Mons. Thibouville-Lamy as president of the Chambre Syndicale of Manufacturers of Musical Instruments of Paris in 1896 and was still acting in that capacity at the time of writing. The chamber, representing piano, wind, string, supply, and automatic-instrument branches of the French trade, worked to strengthen relations among members, support their commercial interests, and maintain trade dignity. A portrait of Lyon accompanies the text. Gustave Lyon assumed guidance of the Paris Pleyel piano firm following the death of Auguste Wolff in February 1887. Under his direction the concern was incorporated under the name Pleyel, Lyon & Company. The author notes the firm as unique in having installed a practical pension system for aged employees.
