H. C. Wilcox of Meriden, Connecticut, called by the author 'that great captain of industry,' made Henry Kirk White and his sons a tempting offer in 1877 to start an organ factory. This led the White family to move to Meriden and organize the Wilcox & White Organ Company, capitalized at $100,000.
