Biography
Harvey S. Crane (H. S. Crane) joined E. Chapuis's felt-making business in Paterson, New Jersey, after Chapuis's return to the United States in 1873, and the two formed the firm of Crane & Chapuis. Spillane notes that Crane was, at the time of writing, Chapuis's successor in the business and was still known as a felt manufacturer.
