Biography

Henry C. Schomacker, born in Philadelphia in May 1840, was the son of founder John Henry Schomacker. He served his apprenticeship under his father and spent several years studying under leading masters in Germany. He later served as secretary of the Schomacker Piano Company, working alongside president I. B. Woodford to maintain the firm's reputation for producing excellent pianos. From Spillane (1890): H. C. Schomacker served as secretary of Schomacker & Company, the Philadelphia piano-manufacturing firm founded by J. H. Schomacker. Spillane notes that he maintained the familiar Schomacker name in connection with the business following the founder's death in 1875, while Colonel H. W. Gray served as the company's president.
