Biography
Henry Engelhardt Steinway, Sr. founded the great piano house that bore his name. His keen judgment was credited with placing each of his sons in the branch of the business best suited to his talents, choosing William for the financial and commercial departments while Theodore built the pianos. He gradually withdrew from active management as his sons, including Albert, the youngest, took over the firm's operations.
