Henry L. Mason
Biography
Henry L. Mason is described as a student of literature who established himself as a writer on music and pianos. His 1900 essay, 'The Modern Artistic Pianoforte, and its Construction,' is noted as frequently quoted, and in 1901 he wrote a history of the development of the American cabinet organ. He contributed regularly to contemporary magazine literature on music and pianos and was often invited to lecture on the subject of good music. His frequent trips to Europe's musical centers brought him into contact with leading figures in music and literature, which the text credits with giving him a cosmopolitan tolerance and liberality useful in his work. He was an active member of the Papyrus and St. Botolph clubs and the Harvard Musical Association, and was elected an honorary member of the Handel and Haydn Society.
