Biography
Henry Steinway, the youngest son of Henry Engelhardt Steinway, joined his father and brothers in the family piano business as it grew. He was described as a genius inventor, a good musician, and someone who mixed easily with artists, professional men, and writers, complementing his brother Charles's organizational skill and their father's business experience within the early Steinway & Sons partnership. He died in the prime of his manhood, a loss that, together with Charles's death, was described as a heavy sorrow borne by his father in his later years.
