Biography
Hiram Herrick was a New York piano maker, in business on Canal Street by 1838, and possibly the 'Herrick' J. A. Gray recalled making overstrung pianos before Jardine's instruments. In 1839 he was granted U.S. patent No. 1379 for a 'square' piano action. He afterward served as superintendent of several prominent piano factories, and died recently (relative to Spillane's writing) in Brooklyn.
