Biography

Hobart M. Cable started his career as a school teacher, later becoming School Commissioner for Delaware County, N.Y. He then settled in Boston and served three successive terms in the Massachusetts legislature. After assisting his brother, H. D. Cable, in managing the Chicago Cottage Organ Company, he organized the Hobart M. Cable Company in December 1900. Described as a man of positive character with boundless faith in his own ability, he built a large business quickly, but overwork undermined his health and he died in December 1909. His son, Hobart M. Cable, Jr., succeeded him as company president. Cable was one of the brothers whom H. Cable called to his aid as his piano and organ business assumed larger proportions, joining alongside brother Fayette S. Cable. No further biographical detail is given about him in this passage beyond his role assisting in the growing enterprise.
