Biography
Ignatz Bösendorfer, among the illustrious names that gave Vienna its prestige as the home of the grand piano, was born at Vienna in 1795. He trained as a pupil of Brodmann and established his own piano business in Vienna in 1828. Over thirty years of active work he added many valuable improvements to the development of the piano before retiring and passing the business to his talented son, Ludwig Bösendorfer. The text presents him as the founding figure of the Bösendorfer firm, whose foremost standing among illustrious Vienna piano makers was later expanded upon by his son.
