Biography
J. George Laffargue partnered with Joseph Oktavec in 1896 to found the firm of Laffargue and Oktavec, dedicated to producing pianos of high musical quality despite slow early progress. When the business was incorporated in 1904 as Laffargue and Company, Laffargue served as president and business manager while Oktavec took charge of manufacturing as vice-president. Laffargue died in 1906, the victim of an automobile accident, after which Laverne M. Ide bought an interest in the company.
