Biography
J. Goodwin, of London, was for many years generally accepted by English authorities as the first person to introduce overstringing in that country. He took out a patent for the overstringing system on March 8, 1836, and practiced the method for years afterward, though Spillane notes his priority was beaten in the United States by Isaac Clark of Cincinnati by about six days, and possibly anticipated earlier still by Thomas Loud.
