Biography
J. H. Boernhoeft operated a New York piano-making business that succeeded the older house of Marschall & Mittauer, continuing to occupy its factory at Fourteenth Street and Third Avenue. Josef Kuder worked in Boernhoeft's employ, continuing there after Marschall & Mittauer's 1871 dissolution, before leaving to join Mr. Sohmer. In 1872 Boernhoeft's business was itself succeeded by the newly formed firm of Sohmer & Company, which went into immediate occupation of the same Fourteenth Street and Third Avenue factory, using it thereafter as warerooms and a finishing shop.
