Biography

Jacob Hackenheimer (given in a caption as 'J. Hackenheimer') was born in Germany on June 26, 1871. His family emigrated to America soon afterward, settling in East Aurora, a village in Erie County, N.Y. -- later made famous as the home of Elbert Hubbard ('Fra Elbertus') and the Roycrofters. He is introduced in the text immediately following a passage explaining that the growth of Christian Kurtzmann's business required bringing in specialists for the managerial and commercial branches of Kurtzmann and Company, implying Hackenheimer filled such a role, though the surviving excerpt is cut off before detailing his specific position.
