Biography
James Abbott was a partner in Abbott & Sons, action-makers, of Fort Lee, New Jersey. He was the youngest of five Abbott brothers who worked in the New York piano trade, four of whom (including William, who died in 1889) learned the business with Nunns & Nunns. James joined his brother John Abbott's business on Walker Street in 1833, the same family connection through which he entered the trade.
