James Cumston, son of the late William Cumston, is described as controlling the firm of Hallet & Cumston at the time of writing and as being practically conversant with all the details of the business, both mercantile and mechanical. The firm, a popular-priced instrument maker, is presented as having descended unchanged in title from the earlier Hallet & Allen partnership his father had joined.
