Biography
James S. Starr, together with his brother Benjamin, acquired an interest in the piano concern founded by Trayser. In 1884 the Starr Brothers obtained control of the business and renamed it the Starr Piano Company, with Benjamin as manager. Upon James Starr's later retirement, Henry Gennett and associates obtained control of the company and began the campaign of expansion that made it a leader in the middle west.
