Biography
Jean Baptiste Erard co-founded the piano and harp firm of Erard with his brother Sebastian in 1785. While Sebastian divided his time between Paris and London, Jean Baptiste had charge of the Paris establishment. He died in 1826. From Spillane (1890): Jean Batiste Erard was the brother of Sebastian Erard. After Sebastian settled in Paris and drifted into the piano business from harpsichord-making, the two brothers collaborated to found the house of Erard, the celebrated Paris piano and harp manufactory that would later become renowned throughout the musical world under Sebastian and his son Pierre.
