Biography
Jean Georges Kriegelstein was born at Riquewihr in 1801 and founded the firm of Kriegelstein & Company in Paris in 1831. He invented a number of improvements and was especially successful with a small upright piano, only 42½ inches high, that he constructed in 1842 and which was noted for its rich, even tone. He retired from business in 1858 and died in Paris on November 20, 1865.
