Biography
Jesse Davis was one of the numerous small piano-makers active in New York between 1840 and the early 1850s, one of many such makers whose shops were eventually driven out of business by the competition of larger manufacturing firms toward 1855. Jesse Davis is named by Spillane among the New York piano-action makers in business by 1856, alongside C. Rogers, Koth, Herter, and Westland, as the specialized action-manufacturing trade expanded in the city.
