Biography
Johann Friedrich Schröder was born at Stralsund in 1785 and began making pianos in St. Petersburg in 1818, building up a respectable business there over more than three decades. On his death in 1852 the firm passed to his son, Karl Michael Schröder, who expanded it considerably.
