Johann Friedrich Silbermann

d. March 8, 1817 · German

piano maker
  • Silbermann (Strasburg branch)

Biography

Johann Friedrich Silbermann was the last member of the Strasburg branch of the Silbermann family to continue the piano-making business founded by Andreas Silbermann and carried on by Johann Daniel Silbermann. The text gives no details of his career beyond noting that the Strasburg firm continued making pianos under his direction until his death on March 8, 1817. His death marked the end of more than a century of Silbermann family involvement in organ and piano building that began with Gottfried Silbermann's apprenticeship in Saxony in the early 1700s and spread to Strasburg through Gottfried's brother Andreas. No birth date or further biographical detail beyond this closing fact is supplied in this section of the text.
