John Church
piano dealer
company namesake
Biography
John Church, a piano dealer of many years' standing along with his associates, gave his name to the John Church Company of Cincinnati. When Frank A. Lee started a new piano venture in Boston, it was Church who chose the name 'Everett' for it, valuing its clear, easily remembered sound. Church and his fellow dealers had originally intended the new firm to build a commercial piano before Lee redirected it toward artistic production. A portrait of Church, in suit and mustache, appears in the text.
